Christmas Soul Mints

p331779b

Came across this idea today and thought it might be something that those who are performing could use as they interact with people this season and are wondering what they could give people to spread a bit of Christmas cheer .

   by Julie

Two years ago a dear couple that my husband and I had been living with launched a bed and breakfast. It was nearly Christmas, and since they were just starting out, we wanted to do something that would help raise awareness and boost their business.Together with this couple, and a few others that we were living with at the time, we organized an “all you can eat” pancake breakfast which we hosted at their bed and breakfast. It was a first for any of us to organize something like this and it was a fun and bonding experience. While we weren’t flooded with customers, we did get a pretty good turnout. We not only covered expenses, but made a profit and got good reviews on the local online community forums.

So after counseling with the team, I printed out the quotes on little slips of paper, folded them, and put them into a small basket. As people left the restaurant I would offer them the basket and encourage them to take one.

The first couple that came by asked if I was offering mints. I replied, “Well, these are ‘soul mints.’ A little Christmas reflection to refresh the soul.” The lady’s eyes lit up and she immediately took a quote and read it aloud right there. She asked if she could take another and encouraged her husband to take one as well. She said, “That was beautiful. Thank you for this. We all need these reminders. God bless you!”

From that point on, the quotes were dubbed “soul mints,” a term that sparked the curiosity of the customers. While it was just a little thing, it seemed to really touch people’s hearts and was a way that we could remind people of the real meaning of Christmas.

Christmas is not the tinsel and lights and outward show…
The secret lies in an inner glow.

Christmas begins deep down inside…
Then engulfs the world like a mighty tide!
